Overview

It is a knock-out competition open to the scottish team playing in Premiership and National Leagues.
From 2011/12 to 2013/14 it was played with a regional phase and national final phase.
Since 2017/18 the Cup is played by Premiership teams and by the 6 best National 1 teams, while the other National League teams play the National League Cup.

In 2005 it was decide to reduce the number of Premiership One teams from 12 to 10.
To fill the empty calendar spots left free by the reduced number of league matches, it was decided to introduce a new competition: the Super Cup.
After only one year it was decided to expand again the number of Premiership One and the Super Cup was abandoned.

In 2018/19 the new Charity Shield was launched: a super cup played by previous season winner of Premiership and Cup.
