Overview

It was the first southern emisphere international competition.
It was played by 2 australian unions (New South Wales and Queensland), a Fiji XV national team and 3 New Zealand provincial unions (Auckland, Canterbury and Wellington).
With the end of apartheid and the return of South Africa to international competitions, it was substituted by Super 10.
