The Project
Women's Regional League

Overview Honours Roll Sources Current Season

Overview

The tournament was created when WWRU (Wales Women Rugby Union) became a part of WRU, to create an intermediate level between clubs and international competitions.
The regions were based on the men's professional franchises.

In the past WWRU made some try to start a similar competition, in the late 90's with 3 regions (East, West and North) and in 2001 with 5 regions, North Wales and 4 other connected to male premiership clubs but equivalent to the actual regions: Pontypridd (Cardiff Blues), Newport (Newport Gwent Dragons), Llanelli (Scarlets) and Swansea (Ospreys).
None of these projects, however, had success and all of them were abandoned without completing any season.
